Low Cost Activities to Try Out With Your Loved Ones This Festive Season

30th November 2018

Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are starting to turn our attention towards the oncoming festivities. There are all sorts of things that we can do to enjoy ourselves during this wonderful time of year, but many activities come hand in hand with expensive price tags. When you try to fit entertainment into a budget that is already accommodating for a tree, decorations, extra festive food, and gifts, you can quickly find yourself facing financial difficulty. But don’t dig your way into debt! Instead, try out some of these low cost activities with your loved ones. They can prove just as fun and won’t empty your bank account!

Most of us buy our festive bakes from stores. But you could try making your own at home this year. If you want to get started right away, consider making a traditional Christmas cake. This takes time to mature and should be ready for Christmas day if you make a move soon. Other recipes that you might want to look up include baking the components for a gingerbread house (which can then be assembled and decorated), cooking up some mince pies, and making iced cookies. The ingredients for all of these things are relatively low cost and they will taste even better warm from the oven!

Jigsaws and Board Games

We tend to spend increased amounts of time indoors around this time of year, as the temperature drops and the weather takes a turn for the worse. So why not give yourself and your loved ones something to do? Invest in a couple of Christmas jigsaws and a range of different board games. Favourites tend to include Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit. Just try to avoid getting too competitive!

Make Decorations

You can make all sorts of fun decorations that can be hung around your home in the lead up to Christmas with materials that you probably already have lying about. To make snowflakes, you only need some sheets of plain paper and some scissors. You can find a complete guide to doing this here!

Build a Snowman

If it turns into a white Christmas, you could consider wrapping up warm and heading out into your garden to build a snowman! All you have to do is roll up balls of snow, place them on top of one another, and then decorate the result with coal for eyes and a carrot for a nose. If you have an old hat and scarf lying about, you could use these as extra features too.

These are just a few different low-cost activities that could keep you and your loved ones occupied this festive season. Remember that you don’t necessarily have to fork out a fortune to have a good time over the holidays!
