I am so excited that summer is here. I love everything about Summer. The birds chirping, even at 5am. Waking up to sunny skies rather than dull clouds. Everyone just seems to be so much happier. The sun definitely has a positive impact on everyone’s mood. What I love the most is that it makes me feel more social.
For me, Summer begins when the clocks go forward. It immediately begins to feel like summer is coming. The mornings become lighter and brighter. I cannot help but wake up in a good mood. With a wakening like that it is easier to get out of bed and start the day, rather than pulling the duvet back over your head! (Some mornings take more effort, especially if Jessica has been up through the night. Yes, it does still happen even at nearly 2!)
The evenings are lighter. Light until late in the evening. No more coming home from work in the dark (not that I do that often). I love that I can sit in the garden and eat my dinner with a lovely chilled glass of Pinot. Is there anything better?
Well yes, actually there is.
With summer comes lots of birthdays. For us, summer is definitely busy for birthdays.
We celebrate eight birthdays, starting in June and finishing in August with my little girls! And that is just family birthdays. What better excuse to get social. There are normally many meals and BBQ’s to celebrate. I love getting together with the family. Eating, drinking, playing games and generally being a bit silly. It is so much easier when the sun is shining as you can be outside, much easier than trying to fit lots of people into a (very small) living room space.
I’m so glad most of our social gatherings happen in the summer. I have so much more energy and feel enthusiastic about getting up and going outside. As much as I love autumn and winter, actually summoning up the energy to get ready to go out in the dark is so hard. In the summer there is no question, I am up. I want to go out. I want to have fun and I want to see people.
These are the reasons why I love summer and I am definitely ready for it! What’s your favourite thing about summer?
